About the IoPT Trauma Conference
Identity-oriented psychotrauma theory and therapy (IoPT) – Offering trauma therapy and training based on Franz Ruppert's groundbreaking theory and method.
Dr Franz Ruppert
Founder of IoPT, retired professor in psychology at the University of Applied Science in Munich, who during his psychological practice with clients and students became interested in Psychotrauma and its effect on individuals and society as a whole.
Author of 11 books published within the field of trauma and translated in many languages. Franz is a renowned speaker highly sought after for his theory and methodology, IoPT with the Intention-method. His most recent book "Self-acnounter wit the Intention-method" summarizes his ground-breaking work.
This conference, hosted in collaboration with the Norwegian Trauma Therapist Association, brings together experts in the field of trauma for two days of insights into the latest developments in practical trauma treatment.
At the Conference, You Will Gain Insights Into:
- Trauma and Health
- Expanding Trauma Theory to societal and political contexts
- Practical Applications of IoPT in therapy and community work
After the Conference, You Will Walk Away With:
- A deeper understanding of how trauma shapes identity, both individually and collectively, with a focus on how trauma affects our health.
- Knowledge about the IoPT method's applications in therapy, social work, and broader societal contexts.
- New perspectives on understanding trauma as a root cause of both individual and societal challenges, and how this knowledge can contribute to healing and growth .
Target Audience:
- Professionals in health and social sciences: Psychologists, nurses, doctors, special educators, midwives, and others working in relational fields.
- Therapists and IoPT Practitioners: Especially those aiming to expand their understanding of how trauma affects our health and apply IoPT methods in their work.
- Community-minded individuals and policymakers: Understanding trauma's impact on health is essential for addressing mental and physical challenges, including chronic illness and healthcare disparities. Acknowledging these effects supports better policies and environments that foster healing and resilience.
- Private individuals interested in personal development: Those seeking a deeper understanding of their identity and how processing trauma can positively transform their lives.
This conference serves as a learning platform for both professionals and interested individuals, emphasizing applicable knowledge in therapeutic and societal contexts alike. Here the translation to English:
The course IoPT Trauma & Health is approved.
The course IoPT Trauma & Health is approved by the Norwegian Psychological Association as a maintenance course for specialists with 10 hours. The course is approved for 2 years from 30.05.2026 to 30.05.2029, provided that the content and scope remain unchanged.
If the course is conducted digitally: The approval assumes that the organizer can monitor the participants' digital presence and can issue participation certificates based on that.

- My body, my trauma, my I
- Theory and Practical work - Symptoms of trauma can also be expressed in our body and produce many symptoms of discomfort like pain in different parts of our body, inflammation, chronic diseases, reduced resistance against infections or insomnia. If we ignore this trauma background as a consequence, we spend a lot of energy and time to deal with these symptoms and make many attempts to make them disappear. So, it could be a reasonable strategy to ask the question, which trauma might still be actively hidden in our psyche and starting to explore our biography in more depth. Traumawork in combination with other body-oriented treatments could then have the best results. Everyone is welcome to participate in a lottery for Working with your Intention, an intention that includes your symptom. The person who is going to get the Self Encounter by Franz, is free to choose resonators from the audience.

- The Helper Syndrome, and the Danger of prolonged Dependence
- Therapy is – in principle – intended to end dependencies. This is particularly true of IoT. The helper syndrome creates new dependencies by transferring unresolved relationships with parents to the therapist-client relationship. Sometimes the result is 'lifelong' therapy with no end and no goal. This does not really help anyone. Being aware of the helper syndrome is recommended for every professional helper. IoPT provides the traumatological explanation for this survival strategy, which today affects large sections of society with effects that are quite the opposite of actual 'help'.

- Truth, Trust and Balance in the IoPT Process – Foundation of Practice
- Theory and Practical work - My is interested in understanding the ‘foundations of practice’, what is necessary for good practice as an IoPT practitioner. These three words, ‘truth’, ‘trust’ and ‘balance’ are one way of looking at the foundation stones of good practice. During my presentation I will talk briefly about these three words, what they mean to us, and how we can consciously bring them into our work. I will also facilitate a process with a volunteer and hopefully find a way of reflecting on the process after it is finished with reference to these three words. Everyone is welcomed to participate in a lottery to work with a Self-Encounter process with me. With a background as a Gestalt psychotherapist since 1989 and a dedicated focus on Franz Ruppert’s work since 2004, my passion lies in investigating and sharing what constitutes good practice for IoPT practitioners. Ultimately, I believe that living a fulfilling life is the greatest testament to the healing of trauma.
